The exhibition "Maíno. An undiscovered master ", to be celebrated between 20 October 2009 and on 17 January 2010 at the Museo Nacional del Prado, brings together most of the known production of one of the most original artists but least known of the Spanish painting from the first half of the seventeenth century. It presents seven new works attributed to Maíno, thanks to the extensive research by its curator, Leticia Ruiz. In addition, the exhibition includes examples of Italian and Spanish artists that serve as counterpoint to contextualize his compositions.
This catalogue, published with the ocassion of the exhibition, has been coordinated by the exhibition curator, Leticia Ruiz. It also contains essays by Gabriele Finaldi, Fernando Marías, María Cruz de Carlos Varona, among other specialist such as Alfonso Rodriguez G. de Ceballos, María Margarita Cuyás, Javier Docampo and Jose Milicua. It also includes 44 works faithfully represented and profusely commented, a chronology of the life of Maíno and the transcription of 64 documents related to the author. All of the essays and information of the catalog is translated into English.
