Royal Couples (1770) depicts an equestrian festival held in the plazuela of the Palace of Aranjuez on 6 June 1770. Paret succeeded in portraying with great skill the movement and energy of the crowd, whose liveliness contrasts with the disciplined movement of the riders. This beautiful and practical individual tray reproduces a detail of the horses at the end of the main parade, led by the Prince of Asturias, the future Charles IV.
