"Salome" pocket mirror with top
7.3 cm in diameter. Covers finished in fabric.
The work reproduced on the cover of this accessory, which has a double mirror, one of which is a magnifying mirror, is one of Reni's paintings dedicated to goddesses, saints and heroines of antiquity. In paintings such as this Salome with the head of Saint John the Baptist (ca. 1635), Reni creates a suggestive and unique language with the play of the drapery, which envelops the body without barely marking its anatomy - contrary to what had been the norm in Mannerism - and contrasts with the whiteness and smoothness of the skin. Thanks to its lid, you can carry it comfortably in your handbag or pocket, preventing the glass from getting dirty or broken.
