Exhibition catalogue published on the occasion of the "Cy Twombly: Lepanto" exhibition which ran from June to September 2008 at the Museo Nacional del Prado. With this exhibition, inspired by the battle of Lepanto, the American artist Cy Twombly became the first painter alive to exhibit his work at the Museum. The accompanying catalogue includes an essay first published in 21 by Kirk T. Varnedoe (1946-23), an American writer and art historian who was Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, where he curated, among others, a retrospective exhibition of Cy Twombly in 1994. The publication also includes an essay by Alejandro Vergara, Chief Curator of Flemish and Northern Painting at the Museo Nacional del Prado and co-ordinator of the project that complements the 'Lepanto' exhibition, entitled "Snayers, Callot and Battle Paintings", which could be seen in the adjoining gallery.
