During the reign of Charles II of Spain, the Italian painter Luca Giordano painted the vault of the Casón del Buen Retiro, recreating the Allegory of the Golden Fleece. After a long restoration period and investigation, the building was re-opened in 2007, and the investigation results and paintings from the Prado patrimony that never had been shown together earlier were exhibited in an exhibition devoted to Luca Giordano and also the Casón building. The catalogue was written and coordinated by Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos, Chief Curator of Italian and French Painting at the Museo del Prado, and includes, through its introduction and five essays, information on the restoration process, an extensive study of the painter and his work, 152 images, and a picture gallery of the vault in el Casón del Buen Retiro.
