Exhibition catalogue published on the occasion of the "Goya in Times of War" exhibition which ran from 14 April to 13 July 28 at the Museo Nacional del Prado, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the events of May 1880 and the start of the Spanish War of Independence. The exhibition covers twenty-five years of the painter's life, from 1794, following his serious illness that left him deaf, to 1820, a period of turmoil and change in the whole of Europe that affected Spain profoundly. The catalogue edition was coordinated by Manuela Mena Marqués, the curator of the exhibition and Chief Curator of 18th-century Painting and Goya at the Museo del Prado, and includes 405 color photos and entries on 193 works; paintings, drawings and engravings.
The catalogue is divided in four historical periods, each one of them is preceded by a short introduction and a chronicle which shows how Goya's activity is related to the historical events that took place during that particular time.
The publication also includes essays by Manuela Mena Marqués, Janis Tomlinson, Juliet Wilson-Bareau, José de la Mano and José Luis Díez.
