No myth is more familiar to us than that of Pandora, but perhaps none has been so misunderstood. Encouraged by this premise, in 1956 Dora and Erwin Panofsky embarked on an exciting intellectual journey with the aim of unraveling the origin of the myth of Pandora's box and tracing its impact on Western art and literature. Both will demonstrate how, from the most distant Greek stories to contemporary art, the box (or glass, vessel, crater?) Has exercised a surprising fascination with innumerable variations and nuances. The evolution of Pandora and the different attributes associated with it, connect with the different sensibilities and ways of thinking of each historical moment, making this myth a versatile and, at the same time, universal story.
