Founded in 1980 by disappeared Jose Manuel Pita Andrade, in this new issue appear articles on iconography, the origin and influence of works such as the Saint Christopher Altarpiece (Gutiérrez), Salvator Rosa's paintings of the philosopher Archytas (Salomon and Langdon), and the sculptural base of The Apotheosis of Claudius (García). Information derived from micro-samples and documentary sources provides the basis for an article on the evolution of canvas grounds in Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries (Gayo and Jover); another article looks at Goya's trip to Andalusia in 1793 (Maurer); and finally the Bulletin includes the first study on the drawings (several by Houasse) bequeathed to the Museum by Pedro Beroqui in 1958.
